August 2013 Visitor Arrivals

North Americans accounted for 29.5 % of all Tahiti visitors for the month of August 2013. Year to date, North America is up 2.8 % over 2012.

Total North American arrivals for the month of August 2013 alone were 4,316, a – 1.7 % decrease or – 74 visitors less than August 2012.

Land arrivals excluding VFR (visiting friends and relatives) for the same month were 3,360 passengers total, a – 1.7 % decrease or – 59 passengers over July 2012.

The cruise passenger arrivals were the same as in August 2012 with 793 visitors.

Total North American “paid room nights” for August 2013 were 32,883, a – 0.8 % decrease or – 263 “paid room nights” compared to August 2012.

Below is a chart highlighting the increase in number of “paid room nights” from January through August from 2007 to 2013.

For the first eight months of the year, the United States delivered 35,803 visitors, while Canada delivered 4,830 visitors and Mexico delivered 576 visitors, for a total of 41,209 visitors. North American arrivals accounted for 37.3 % of the tourist arrivals in French Polynesia.

Tahiti Tourisme North America Debuts New Vacation Guide

Tahiti Tourisme North America recently released its latest version of the Tahiti Vacation Guide. The full-color, 66-page brochure features the latest information about the islands including properties, activities, spa, dive, dining, destination weddings & honeymoons, history, culture and cruise and airline partners. The new guide features gorgeous, vibrant images that showcase the various experiences and products throughout the islands.

“The new visually and content rich guide will inspire and educate both travel agents and consumers to plan their dream trip to the Islands of Tahiti. The guide provides an overview of key islands, accommodations, preferred travel companies and pertinent travel information,” said Jonathan Reap, Managing Director, Tahiti Tourisme North America.

Islands featured in the guide include Tahiti, Bora Bora, Huahine, Moorea, Raiatea, Taha’a, Ahe, Fakarava, Manihi, Maupiti, Rangiroa, Tetiaroa, Tikehau, Hiva Oa, Nuka Hiva, Raivavae, Rurutu, Tubuai and Mangareva. Cruise options and airline options are also featured.

Additional guide highlights include maps, sample itineraries, activity overviews including lagoon experiences, cultural tours, 4×4 and ATV safaris, circle island tours, jet ski and boat excursions, scuba diving and more.

Tahiti Air Charter Launches New Chartered Flights In French Polynesia

Launched in September 2013, visitors and locals alike are invited to take to the postcard-perfect skies above the Islands of Tahiti with new tours and chartered flights offered by Tahiti Air Charter.

With scenery ranging from rugged mountains to deep blue lagoons stretching across 118 islands and atolls, Tahiti Air Charter provides a unique experience to see all of this from the sky.

South Pacific Management Hotels, Resorts & Spa Announces New Updates

Allen-Yves Thomas, has been appointed the new commercial and marketing development director at South Pacific Management Hotels, Resorts & Spa! After earning an MBA, Allen-Yves Thomas started his career at Club Med USA, Accor and Disney. He has over 30 years experience in hotel and real estate management in Asia, between Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore. As the vice-president of HPL Group for the past 15 years, Allen-Yves supervised the acquisition, development and management of resorts and boutique hotels for prestigious brands such as Four Seasons, Hilton, Le Méridien, Concorde and Hard Rock Café. His new position brings him back to French Polynesia where he lived as a child.

In addition, SPM Hotels, Resorts & Spa recently announced the addition of a new room category at the Tikehau Pearl Beach Resort, the 1,200 sq. feet Beach Villa.

The Beach Villa includes a spacious lounge with a desk and single bed, a private enclosed garden and terrace with private pool, luxurious wooden deck with new patio furniture, full shower in a tropical garden, one king size bed or two twin beds, air-conditioning and ceiling fan, mini bar fully equipped, in-room safe, and espresso coffee/tea making facilities.

Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort & Spa now features a new room category. The nine End of Pontoon Overwater Bungalows are 53 square meters each. They offer a spacious bathroom area with separate shower and a full size bathtub. The vanity area and the bathtub feature glass table tops to look into the lagoon.

The rooms feature the following amenities: free Wi-Fi, a Nespresso machine with 12 capsules, iPod station and a 32-inch flat screen television. Guests can also take advantage of a priority check-in with the manager with a complimentary half bottle of champagne.

Lastly, following the very recent change of ownership, SPM is pleased to announce the change in name of the Te Tiare Beach Resort Huahine, which has become the Royal Huahine. A new logo has also been designed to emphasize the strong Polynesian character of the property. However, please note that all the hotel’s contact information remain unchanged.

St. Regis Bora Bora Opens New Italian Restaurant

The St. Regis Bora Bora is pleased to announce the opening of its fourth restaurant, Far Niente.

The Italian brick-oven restaurant will highlight the mouthwatering cuisine of Northern Italy with sprinkes of Polynesian flavors, directed by Chef Loic Pfeiffer.

Working closely with his culinary team on site, Pfeiffer crafted a menu filled with Italian favorites coupled with island and local flavor. Signature dishes include Tagliatelles Tartuffo – a delicious homemade pasta cooked in a creamy truffle sauce topped with grated truffle; and the Minestrone of Local Fruits and Vegetables served with Taha’a Island vanilla tea and a basil sorbet, infused with local basil from the resort’s garden.

Far Niente will be open 6-10 p.m. local time from Thursday – Monday.

Relais Mahana Relaunches With Tahiti Yacht Charters

A fresh new start for Relais Mahana! We are pleased to announce that Tahiti Yacht Charter (TYC) bought the Relais Mahana in August 2013.

The charter company owns a fleet of 25 catamarans that are fully equipped with crew and amenities. The combination of the Relais Mahana and TYC will provide exclusive “surf and turf” packages in the Leeward Islands starting in Fall 2013.

There will be  new non-motorized activities free of charge for all guests. Activities will include biking, kayaking, snorkeling and stand up paddle boarding.

The hotel also recently welcomed a new chef who features an exciting new menu.

Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti Hosts Local Events

In August, the Radisson Plaza Resort Tahiti welcomed several local events, such as the “Tahiti Nui Body Building Cup” and the “IFBB South Pacific Championships,” where body builders competed for the number one spot on the island.

The “Miss Bikini” evening event also took place at the resort, and had a large audience – one of the largest crowds seen on the island so far this year.

Radisson Plaza Resort will be the host hotel for two major canoe races on the island of Tahiti – “Te Aito” and the “Super Te Aito.”

“Te Aito” is for solo canoe racers to paddle from Papeete’s famous waterfront, to Matavai Bay, where the resort is located and considered the finish line. Hundreds of racers are expected to compete in this event. The “Super Te Aito” – a 32 km race from Moorea to Tahiti – will put the best of the best canoe racers to the test.

Legends Resort Moorea Updates

Shot in November 2012 on the island of Moorea, one of the first songs from young singer Luyanna, “The Falling Rain” features the beauty of French Polynesia’s luxuriant landscapes and clear-blue waters. With special assistance from Air Tahiti Nui, Moorea Dolphin Center, ATV Moorea Tours, TopDive Moorea, Tahiti Helicopters and Terevau, Legends Resort Moorea had the tremendous pleasure in welcoming Luyanna back to the property, along with the most influential TV & press journalists specialized in music trends in France, including French TV M6, W9, MCM, as well as Paris Match magazine, among other media.
