January 2014 Visitor Arrivals

We are pleased to announce that the Institute of Statistics of French Polynesia (ISPF) has released the statistics for January 2014, and that the North American market is off to a really great start!

North Americans accounted for 46.6% of all Tahiti visitors for January 2014. Total North American arrivals for the month of January 2014 alone were 5,789, a + 19.2% increase or + 931 visitors more than January 2013.
Land arrivals excluding VFR (visiting friends and relatives) for the same month were 2,399 passengers total, a + 8.70 % increase or + 192 passengers over January 2013.

Total North American “paid room nights” for January 2014 increased to 23,289, a + 21% increase or + 4,044 “paid room nights” over January 2013 – surpassing the last six years in “paid room nights” for the month of January. The total cruise arrivals were 3,286 passengers, a + 32.18 % increase or + 800 passengers.
Below is a chart highlighting the increase in number of “paid room nights” and “visitor arrivals” in the month of January from 2007 to 2014.

The United States delivered 4,643 visitors, while Canada delivered 1,146 visitors, and Mexico delivered 61 visitors, for a total of 5,850 visitors for the month of January 2014.

Tahiti Tourisme North America would like to thank and congratulate all of our partners for these wonderful results. This increase of arrivals illustrates synergy among our Tahiti partners and the overall interest in the Islands of Tahiti from North America.

The Islands of Tahiti Are Happy!

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. (March 4, 2014) – GIE Tahiti Tourisme, Tahiti Tourisme North America’s head office, recently posted “Happy (We Are from Tahiti)” on YouTube.  The video was created as a special version of Pharrell Williams’ hit “Happy” to showcase the Islands of Tahiti’s beauty and people.  Williams’ hit song has gone viral with different countries adapting it to showcase what makes their country “happy.”

As in the original clip filmed in Los Angeles, the videos use a lip dub concept. A lip dub is a type of video that combines lip synching and audio dubbing to create a music video. It involves filming individuals or a group of people lip synching while listening to a song or any recorded audio then dubbing over it in post editing with the original audio of the song.

From Paris, Tokyo and Sao Paulo, the concept has become a worldwide phenomenon and GIE Tahiti Tourisme embraced the “happy” concept to show what makes the islands and people of Tahiti so special.

Behind the camera were two local producers, who used the beautiful islands of Tahiti, Moorea and Taha’a in GIE Tahiti Tourisme’s version of “Happy.”

Tiare News – March 2014

Tahiti Tiare Program®

We are excited to announce and unveil our new tiered Tahiti Tiare Program®.

As you know, until now, one of the requirements to become a Certified Tahiti Specialist® was to submit a minimum of four (4) bookings per year based on certification date.
This will change as of April 1st, 2014 and the Tahiti Tiare Program® will become a tiered program with different levels of Certified Tahiti Specialists®. The program will take into consideration gross revenue and no longer number of bookings.
In order to become a Certified Tahiti Specialist® (and remain certified), Travel Advisors will have to produce a minimum of $30,000 in Tahiti bookings per year based on a calendar year (January 1st, to December 31st). They will continue submitting their bookings in the Travel Trade Center and total package price will become essential.
The attached document outlines the updated requirements to become a Certified Tahiti Specialist® as well as the different levels and the benefits and incentive for each level.
We know this will require some adjustments for everyone, but we believe that this will be beneficial to all of us, especially Travel Advisors who actively sell our beautiful destination.
Travel Advisors can enter their bookings as they make them, or enter them all at once by the end of the year. There will be the possibility to upload a yearly sales report for Advisors who work closely with a preferred Tour Operator.
Travel Trade Center and E-Learning
The Travel Trade Center is the dedicated Travel Advisors’ section where agents can access information on the destination. 

The E-Learning Program (Tahiti Tiare Program®) is the destination’s specialist program for Travel Advisors wishing to get an in-depth training on the Islands of Tahiti and wish to become Certified Tahiti Specialists®.
The main enhancements to both include:
  • One point of entry for both the Travel Trade Center and the Tahiti Tiare Program all under:
  • Simplified registration process for the Travel Trade Center and the Tahiti Tiare Program®
  • A new online destination presentation that can be downloaded step by step and viewed at one’s own pace
  • An updated and enhanced online exam
  • Updated destination information
  • And available soon, a variety of fact sheets and cheat sheets about the islands

2014 Recent Trade Shows & Events

January 11 & 12, 2014
Travel & Adventure Show, Chicago, IL

The Travel & Adventure Show is Chicago’s largest travel show for consumers looking for travel inspuration®. Tahiti Tourisme shared a 30-minute destination presentation on the show floor that was well attended and very well received. This is the third year that TTNA has participated in this show’s Chicago location. Despite the weather, the show provided wide exposure with more than 20,000 consumers attending the two-day event.  We are hoping to return again in 2015 and are will hold two destination presentations next year.

February 8 & 9, 2014
Travel & Adventure Show, Los Angeles, CA

The Travel & Adventure Show continued to prove their formula for a successful consumer travel show by again providing great exposure for the Islands of Tahiti to more than 32,000 consumers from the greater Los Angeles and Orange County area. Tahiti Tourisme North America held a well attended destination presentation and was featured in several travel interviews.

February 19 – 21, 2014
GMITE Los Angeles

Tahiti Tourisme North America was one of fifty Suppliers with a full day of one-on-one appointments with pre-qualified incentive buyers and meeting planners. TTNA covered a general destination overview and travel information on the destination as the attending buyers have been receiving an influx of interest from their clients for the Islands of Tahiti.

February 28 – March 2, 2014
New York Times Travel Show

Tahiti Tourisme North America and Partners participated in the New York Times Travel Show which had more than 15,000 consumers in attendance. TTNA had a prime booth location in the South Pacific section next to one of the popular cultural entertainment stages which attracted many consumers and provided an increased presence and branding exposure. Participating Partners included: Air Tahiti Nui, C.P.T.M. Aranui and Pleasant Holidays.

March 10, 2014
The Wedding Salon in Los Angeles, CA

Tahiti Tourisme North America was one of only a select few destinations represented at this very upscale bridal show. The attendees paid $75 per couple to attend this 4-hour tradeshow with vendors from all aspects of the wedding and honeymoon planning process. The Islands of Tahiti were on the top of many brides’ list as their top honeymoon destination with many saying they came to the show specifically to see us. Travel Store, along with two of our very active certified Tahiti Tiare Agents had a booth right next to us which created a convenient, “one stop shop” for many future honeymooners. Tahiti Tourisme North America will also be participating in the Chicago and New York Wedding Salon shows in the fall.

2014 Tahiti Reception Series

Tahiti Tourisme North America is pleased to announce the successful launch of our newly formatted travel agent training program and receptions. The first reception took place on Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at Westside Tavern in Los Angeles. The new format brought together preferred retail travel advisors who were hand-selected by our participating Tour Operator Partners. The receptions gave this exclusive group of select travel advisors the opportunity to network with the participating Suppliers and receive a revamped destination overview that focused on the five archipelagoes, including activities and products offered throughout the islands.

Detailed information covering target markets beyond honeymoons including diving, family travel, sailing and yachting and Tahiti’s “Hidden Paradise” islands rounded out the overall presentation. The participating Supplier Partners also gave presentations on their respective properties.

The Tahiti receptions continued in California to Walnut Creek on Wednesday, February 12 and Sacramento on Thursday, February 13. In total, with our partners, we successfully trained more than 150 preferred travel advisors about the Islands of Tahiti. Earlier this month the Tahiti Reception Series were held in Long Island, NY on Tuesday, March 4, Washington, D.C. on Wednesday, March 5 and to Boston, MA on Thursday, March 6. Despite the treacherous weather, TTNA and our Partners successfully met with and trained over 150 additional preferred travel advisors on the East Coast. We will continue to hold the Tahiti Receptions throughout the year, exclusively for Partner invited travel agents in the following cities:
